It is an extraordinary spectacle that Villeurbanne, a municipality in the metropolis of Lyon and designated as the French capital of culture 2022, is preparing to host.
For three days, from September 23 to 25, the world famous street theater company Royal de luxe will thrill the city by organizing a giant dog race.
Two mechanical dogs articulated by men
Through very specific routes, two huge mechanical dogs, articulated by dozens of actors and technicians from the company, will “find each other, run after each other, train, warm up, then compete”.
On Friday and Saturday, spectators are invited to follow them through the streets of Villeurbanne before attending the grand finale on Sunday, which will be followed “like a car race”.
The two canids, called “Xolo” and “Bull Machin” respectively, were imagined by Jean-Luc Courcoult, author-director and founder of the company.
“One is fragile like a packet of spaghetti, the other more dense and clumsy than hundreds of anvils placed on a small plate. Both know that they must compete without knowing each other, to win the battle on the Cours Emile-Zola. »
The Minister of Culture will attend the show
On this occasion, the Minister of Culture Rima Abdul-Malak goes to Villeurbanne on Friday and attends the first part of this show.
All the details of the routes and practical information can be found on the website of the city of Villeurbanne.
