Food Expo is a trade fair in Hong Kong, which brings together thousands of visitors as well as a few hundred exhibitors. This popular event is aimed at all audiences, and allows you to discover world gastronomy every year for 5 days.
However from August 11 to 15, 2022 the tasting area which makes integral part of the living room, will not be there, and all participants will have to keep their masks. This announcement by Sophia Chong, acting CEO of the exhibition, is explained by the restrictions linked to the coronavirus in China.
Indeed, this is the third year in China that the policy of “zero covid“. China applies strict border measures and regulated social distancing. It is also forbidden to gather more than 4 people in public places. Hong Kong recorded last week between 3000 and 4000 cases of Covid per day, figures that do not allow the restrictions to be eased.
The lounge bans come a day after another government decision to ban eating in the stands at the Hong Kong Sevens, a popular rugby event in November. It will be possible to drink but it will be necessary put on a mask between each sip.
No impact for the gastronomy fair
Visitors to this great exhibition come mainly to discover the diversity of food present. “We understand that visitors want to taste the samplessaid Ms. Chong. The acting CEO of the Trade Development Council, adds that this decision has not no impact on exposure, these bans were already in force last year. It is reported that the number of exhibitors at the Food Expo exceeds that of the previous year proving the popularity of the event.
Pending an improvement in the situation, Ms. Chong hopes “resume this arrangement after the pandemic when it is safe and hygienic to do so”thus allowing a better experience for the participants.
