Var: the South Region launches the “Animal-Friendly City” label

Tuesday, October 4, 2022, on the occasion of the world animal daythe South Region has just presented its new “Animal friendly city” label. To obtain it, the municipalities will have to apply by filling out a questionnaire which will make it possible to evaluate the appropriate actions in favor of pets and equines on their territory.

“The Happy Animal in the City”

The label is part of the work of the Regional Environmental Proposal Office and should be adopted on October 21, 2022 by the Regional Assembly. An important initiative in a region where more than one in two inhabitants owns at least one pet, but where abandonment continues to increase.

It revolves around two axes:
The happy animal in the city : improvement of the communal space for structures more adapted to animals, such as dog parks, shelters for stray cats, awareness-raising actions.
– The happy citizen with his animal: support and enhancement of the role of assistance dogs for people with disabilitiessupport for initiatives allowing the detention, care and temporary care of pets for hospitalized people or, setting up a mounted guard for municipal police officers.
