The musher Sébastien Dos Santos Borges: from the Far North to the Pont school

After a first visit in the spring of 2021, the polar reporter-explorer Sébastien Dos Santos Borges made a new stopover in Viviez, at the Pont school (both schools are concerned), with his 20 dogs and his converted van.

Last year, the musher (dog handler) explained to school children the difficult living conditions in the Far North, the role of dogs and how a sled works.

For this second meeting, Sébastien commented to the older ones on his impressions of global warming, the changes he has noticed when he has been frequenting the country of “extreme cold” for many years.

The explorer also spoke of the wolf (one of his dogs is crossed with a wolf), an animal venerated by “ancient” peoples and often hated nowadays.

As for the little ones, he enlightened them on the constitution of a team of dogs and feeding.

Finally, Sébastien Dos Santos Borges explained to them how he found one of his lost dogs in Alaska, Léon, who was found on the ice floe three months later.

An immense joy for the musher, his dogs being like his children. This story, which ends well, is the subject of the documentary film which will be broadcast on Arte in December.
