Teenagers and parents will be made aware of cyberbullying south of Caen

Two workshops on cyber harassment are offered at Saint-Martin-de-Fontenaysouth of Caen (Calvados), to raise awareness parents and teenagers on the subject. The two meetings will take place at the library: Tuesday September 20, 2022 for parents at 6:30 p.m., and Thursday October 27 for teenagers at 3 p.m. This is part of the digital workshops set up since last April.

“That everyone can speak freely”

“We want to differentiate between adults and teenagers so that everyone can speak freely, because young people have the impression that we only talk about digital negatively,” says librarian Amandine Pagny.

We will discuss their way of using the networks, we will use a cyberbullying application and a fun time for young people. For parents, we will talk about concrete tools for parental control, with immediate implementation. The objective is to give keys and solutions.

These workshops are carried out in partnership with the local UNCMT young people in May-sur-Orne, which welcomes young people aged 11 to 17 from the sector. “From 8-9 years old, children use social networks or online games,” says Sandra Derouet, director of the local youth. “For some, there is first a relationship through screens before the physical link”.

“A real expectation and a need”

Since April 2022, a free digital service has been organized at the Saint-Martin library every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. As well as one workshop per month. An initiative of the Department of Calvados linked to the observation of the digital divide after the Covid-19 crisis.

23 digital advisers have been recruited in the department. In the Orne and Odon Valley community of communes, Virginie Declomesnil organizes the offices, in Fontaine-Etoupefour, Baron-sur-Odon, Grainville-sur-Odon, Saint-Martin- de-Fontenay, at info points 14 in Evrecy and May-sur-Orne, and soon in Feuguerolles-Bully and Fontenay-le-Marmion.

“At first, some people are afraid to come all the time, because they don’t know anything about it, but precisely, we are there for them. We are not here to give a course, but to give advice, ”continues Viriginie Declomesnil, who has accompanied nearly 70 people in Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay, since the setting up of the meeting in the spring. “We are responding to a need and the feedback from users is good”.
