SNCF now offers a single price for pet train tickets

The news should delight the owners of animals often called upon to take the train. On June 23, the SNCF updated the page of its website devoted to the rules for traveling with your pet. From now on, all animals, whatever their size, will have to have a transport ticket that can be booked on the internet or at the station at the price of 7 euros. Until now, the rules were quite restrictive. If the animal weighed less than six kilos and was delivered in a basket, the ticket cost, as now, only 7 euros.

But if he weighed more, the price of his ticket was “50% of the full price of a 2nd class ticket, calculated on the basis of the mileage scale”, specified the old version of the carrier’s website. . Rules that led some travelers to have to pay very high fares to travel with their dog, like this Twitter user: “One day, we can consider a discount card for dogs on your trains? Because 88€ for an AR Paris/Avignon is starting to hit a little!”

Another user, having to pay 47.20 euros for her dog’s ticket and 39 euros for hers, is annoyed: “The price of the ticket is more expensive for my dog than for me. But of course.”

The measure, which concerns TGV Inoui, Intercity trains and TER should therefore allow regular train users with their four-legged friends to make big savings. For Ouigo trains, the ticket has recently been reduced from 15 to 10 euros per animal and per journey. Remember, however, that the purchase of these tickets is not necessary for guide dogs.

The SNCF is taking advantage of this price change to dematerialize tickets for pets: you can now present it on your smartphone, as for your own ticket.
