St Mary’s Stadium stalled Arsenal! Like the previous season, the Gunners failed to find their way to success on the lawn of Southampton. This time, Mikel Arteta’s men stopped the defeat and took a point (1-1) but that does not erase the essentials. With that points split, the Londoners ended their four-game winning streak in the league and left two points behind in their quest for the Premier League title. In the standings, the dolphin Manchester City took the opportunity to return to two points at the end of the eleventh day of the Premier League 2022-2023.
At the end of the first ten days with 27 points taken out of a possible 30, Arsenal had made the best start in its history in the English championship. Inevitably, the Gunners were going to be expected at the turn, starting with this perilous trip to Southampton. And in fact, it turned out to be right. Left in a hurry, the eleven London holder put his foot on the ball to put pressure on the local defense.
Another victory: Xhaka and Arsenal remain on their cloud

Xhaka had ideally started the Gunners
If Granit Xhaka found the gloves of young Gavin Bazunu on his first attempt (7th), the Swiss found the net with a magnificent half-volley under the bar following a cross from Ben White (0-1, 11th ). Launched at a very high pace, the visitors wanted to double the bet quickly but Gabriel Jesus hit in the side netting (25th) and missed his second duel with Bazunu despite a delicious pass from Martin Ødegaard (44th).
With only one but ahead at the break, Arsenal remained within gunshot of the Saints. And quite logically, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s tactical readjustment ended up bearing fruit. In a more compact 4-4-2, Southampton equalized thanks to a breakthrough from Mohamed Elyounoussi and a surgical finish from Stuart Armstrong (1-1, 65th). The Scotsman’s first goal was almost followed by a second goal, but Joe Aribo saw his pivot shot captured by Aaron Ramsdale (70th).
On the other side of the lawn, Ødegaard thought he was giving his team the definitive advantage, but his goal was logically disallowed because the ball had previously crossed the goal line on the cross from the left (79th ). Without a solution, Arsenal had to turn their backs at the end of the match and settle for a draw. After all, with 28 points out of a possible 33, this is still an excellent balance sheet. And if Manchester City may put the pressure on, the Citizens cannot say the same.
