Ourse killed in Ariège in November 2021: several hunters placed in police custody, including the shooter

A call was launched on social networks to demonstrate, this Friday, June 3, from 9:00 a.m. in front of the gendarmerie of Saint-Girons, where the police custody takes place.

The Foix prosecutor’s office had announced the opening of a judicial investigation against X for “destruction of a protected species”. This Thursday, June 3, several hunters were placed in police custody in the investigation into the death of a bear, killed last year in the Pyrenees during a wild boar beat, reports La Dépêche which quotes the Federation of Ariège hunters.

So far, six hunters have been interviewed, including the shooter. This Friday, two other hunters will be questioned, according to our colleagues.

A call was launched on social networks to manifest Friday from 9:00 am in front of the gendarmerie of Saint-Girons, where the police custody takes place.

A bear killed last November

On November 20, a hunter was seriously injured by a bear near the town of Seix in Ariège, reported our colleagues from France 3 and The Dispatch.

It was during a wild boar hunt that the 70-year-old hunter would have been confronted with the animal. As the bear charged him, he would have fired two shots to defend himself. These two bullets would be enough to kill the mammal instantly. After this collision, the seriously injured man was transported by helicopter by the PGHM of Arriège.

After the animal’s death, the debate had torn pro and anti bears. Indeed, on the one hand the associations had asked for a rapid investigation to understand what happened, recalling that a bear does not attack by chance, on the other hand, the opponents to the presence of the animal there see new proof of the dangerousness of a cohabitation between man and bear.
