MAPAQ seized 12 sled dogs at the La Poursuite kennel

Four inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) thoroughly inspected the kennel site. The approximately 200 dogs were observed one by one. After several hours of inspection, ministry employees placed 12 animals in a truck before leaving the scene.

Two police officers from the City of Lévis also went on site to support the work of MAPAQ. This indicates that the inspection was carried out in the absence of complaints received in connection with the establishment.

The MAPAQ sometimes requests the presence of the police authorities, it is not incapable that they accompany the inspectors to ensure that they are able to carry out their intervention in the best possible conditions.specifies Yohan Dallaire Boily spokesperson of the ministry by email.

Last week, sources showed Radio-Canada that veterinary follow-ups were rare at the La Poursuite kennel and that the animals often died of diseases. One of the owners, Laurent Caouette, denied neglecting the health of his animals.

The kennel was plunged into turmoil after the broadcast of images filmed by an activist who denounces the living conditions of sled dogs.
