Liverpool lose at Nottingham Forest and relapse in the Premier League

On paper, there was nothing better for Liverpool than a trip to the ground of the red lantern, Nottingham Forest, to chain a third consecutive success in the Premier League, after those on Manchester City (1-0) and West Ham (1-0). Instead, Jürgen Klopp’s men, won by Curtis Jones and James Milner, relapsed at the City Ground (1-0) and conceded a third defeat in the Championship this season.

They were very dull in the first period, where Virgil Van Dijk, well served by Milner, should have opened the scoring with a header, alone seven meters from goal, but preferred to attempt a header towards Roberto Firmino (37th ). Clumsiness again on returning from the locker room, Mohamed Salah, alone in front of goal, missing his recovery (52nd).

And three minutes later, following a free kick 45 meters from the goal shot by Morgan Gibbs-White, Forest opened the scoring by Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi, who twice took over a cross from Steve Cook (58th), his first attempt being pushed back by the post. Only the vigilance and talent of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker prevented Forest from making the break (69th, 86th). His counterpart Dean Henderson will save the sides by stopping a header from Van Dijk from a corner (90th + 2).

With this defeat, the Reds remain stuck in seventh place in the Premier League, four points from the Top 4, while waiting for Chelsea (4th)-Manchester United (6th) on Saturday (6:30 p.m.). Nottingham Forest, who remained on nine games without a win, return to 19th place, one point ahead of Leicester.
