A Reds duel this Saturday under a beautiful sun at the City Ground, for the opening match of the 13th day of the Premier League. Red lantern of the championship, Nottingham Forest received Liverpool in a clash between two teams with opposite dynamics: the men of Jürgen Klopp, seventh before this weekend remained on two successes against Manchester City and West Ham, while the Tricky Trees did not had not known the taste of victory since the second day against the Hammers. A reaction was therefore expected from the players of Steve Cooper, extended until 2025 at the beginning of October despite the negative series.
In white this afternoon, Liverpool took the pace of the game on their own, pushing the red block back into their own camp. If the locals tried a little to bring the ball up to give themselves some air, Carvalho, checked by Henderson (11th) and missing his header (24th), then Firmino, too imprecise on a corner (13th) won the first opportunities, without danger. Forest nevertheless managed to get a few shots against, but Alisson was vigilant against Kouyaté (19th), Awoniyi (25th) and Lingard (31st). Less visible than usual, Salah did not put enough power to deceive the opposing English goalkeeper (30th).
Forest finally revives
Surprised by Van Dijk’s delivery of the header following a kick, Firmino was alone but too short to touch the ball (38th). The symbol of a half-hearted first period for the Reds, dominant in the game but lacking in lucidity in the last gesture. Returning from the locker room, Salah found himself alone on a free kick but completely missed his recovery (51st). On a powerful cross in front of goal, Awoniyi took the ball and deceived Alisson at close range to open the scoring in favor of the locals (1-0, 55th), before finding Gibbs-White, whose opportunity for the break was countered by the defense (58th).
Already beaten on the opener of the opposing score, Alisson nevertheless remained reassuring in his goals to keep his own in the match, author of a fine save against the incoming B. Johnson (69th), before capturing the low shot from Yates (77th). As in the first half, LFC relied on the long game to find options in the penalty area. Despite everything, Alexander-Arnold offered himself a nice header in the zone of truth, countered by the fists of Henderson in front of his line (85th) before the other goalkeeper on the ground did not illustrate himself in stride against Yates (86th). On TAA’s kick, Van Dijk still surprised his people with a throw-in at the far post (90th) but lost his duel against Henderson (90 + 2nd). Nottingham Forest offers a prestigious success on the smallest of margins (1-0) and is no longer the red lantern in the championship, Liverpool remains 7th in the standings.
