La Ferté-sous-Jouarre: firefighters save a donkey that fell in the Petit Morin

When you join the fire brigade, you can’t imagine the variety of missions you fulfill. Illustration this Sunday, shortly after 5 p.m., rue du Petit-Condetz in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre. A donkey was in the middle of an arm of the Petit Morin river and he had to be rescued. The firefighters of the intervention and rescue center of the town literally threw themselves into the water.

No one knows how long the animal had been in the waters. “The water came to him at the museum. He was caught in the vase. At this place, there was between 1.20 meters and 1.50 meters deep, ”says a witness. A construction engine of the owner of the animal, a kind of forklift equipped with a “fork” was used to mitigate the equine.

First, two firefighters, equipped with waders, jumped into the water, going to the animal. “He was tired. He had to be reassured. Then the rescuers put straps on him under his chest and abdomen. Two other firefighters got into the water to help their colleagues in this mission. A last firefighter, a specialist in this kind of rescue, came to check that the harness had been correctly placed so as not to hurt the animal.

The owner’s construction machine then went into action. “Protections were placed on the forks so as not to bless the animal”, details our direct witness of the scene. The animal was finally able to get out of the water. “He didn’t panic. He let himself go. »

The rescue operation lasted two hours, ending shortly after 7 p.m. The donkey is safe and sound.
