Kelsey-Lee Barber’s summer is decidedly successful. After retaining her world title in Eugene, the Australian gleaned gold on Sunday in the Commonwealth Games javelin event.
Bronze medalist in 2014 and silver in 2018, she nevertheless came close to not being able to contest the competition this year, after having tested positive for Covid after the last Worlds. The 30-year-old was still positive a week ago but was finally cleared to compete.

” I wasn’t going to let this affect my performance today […] I was focused and I knew what I wanted to accomplish here “, said Barber after his victory. The latter won in favor of a final throw at 64.43m, beating compatriot Mackenzie Little’s mark by 16cm to snatch the title. India’s Annu Rani completed the podium with a 60m throw.
