Free consultation at 25, 45, 65, “key ages in terms of prevention”, according to François Braun

The Minister of Health and Prevention, François Braun, gives an update at the microphone of France Inter on the cases of coronavirus, on the rise and vaccination. He also returns to the monkey pox epidemic and the pension reform, concerned by the president in the social security financing bill.

An 8th wave that “will happen”, say the scientists

Thursday September 15, 33,000 new cases of Covid-19 were translated in France, against 20,000 a week earlier. Is this the beginning of the eighth wave? “It is too early to say that it is already the beginning of the eighth wave, but the indicators are on the rise”responds the Minister of Health and Prevention. “I have the numbers every day to see what happens, we are on armed vigilance against this eighth wave which the scientists have said will arrive.”

“One thing we have all learned is to be extremely humble about the evolution of this epidemic. Let’s stay vigilant,” adds François Braun.

Regarding vaccination, the fourth dose is currently authorized for people over 60 or immunocompromised people. The Minister announced in August a new vaccination campaign, “which will reach the same target people for now”. “We are ready to start this campaign and expand if necessary. The original vaccines are still effective, we have all of these vaccines to protect the most vulnerable people.” For now, people outside the “public target” are not invited to be vaccinated.

“Unacceptable” medical deserts

Asked by a listener about medical deserts, for his case in the Parisian suburbs of 15,000 inhabitants. “She is right, it is unacceptable not to have access to a doctor”, answers François Braun. The forced installation of doctors in medical deserts “is a tool that does not work, we see it in countries like Germany or Canada, the incentive will be more effective”he assures. “We built in the 60s and 70s a health system based on supply: let’s recreate a health system based on the needs of the population.”

On the free consultation at 25, 45 and 65, announced this weekend, “these are key ages in life in terms of prevention”, says the minister. Key moments when, for example, cancer screenings can be useful.

On the report on the end of life, the Minister considers that “It’s as much or even more of a social problem than a medical problem. In this consultation, my role is that we don’t forget the voice of the caregivers”.

What about pension reform?

In another part, Emmanuel Macron does not rule out presenting a pension reform in the social security financing bill which will be examined in the fall. He does not exclude either to pass this reform, if necessary, not the 49-3. “You know like me that all options are on the table today on this possible pension reform, that the Prime Minister is working tirelessly on it and that she will announce her decision when it is ready”assures François Braun.
