Finistère: a new whale stranded on a beach in Ploéven

One more animal in bad shape. Eight days after the last cetacean stranding on the coast of Finistère, a new whale was stranded on Monday on a beach in Ploéven, where firefighters and gendarmes were trying to put the animal back into the water, which was discovered still alive, in -in consultation with the prefecture.

The Finistère prefecture reported Monday at midday “a situation of a whale stranding in Ploéven” for around 8 hours, confirming information from the daily Le Télégramme. According to the newspaper, the animal, which measures a dozen meters, was discovered on Monday morning by walkers.

An injured and tired animal

“At this stage, the animal is alive” and “there is an attempt to release it which is in progress”, indicated the prefecture, specifying that the firefighters and the gendarmes are always on the spot. The animal is most likely injured and tired, said the emergency services on site.

“It’s the first time it’s happened. Usually, we only have stranded carcasses, ”reacted the mayor of Ploéven, Didier Planté, to the Telegram.

This is the third cetacean discovered stranded on a beach in Finistère since the beginning of September. Two whales were stranded a few days apart in Finistère, on the island of Sein, on September 2 and on a beach in Tréguennec, on September 10.
