This Friday noon, after 23 hours of racing, Beñat Marmissolle won the Diagonale des Fous, this cult ultra-trail of 165 km organized in Reunion.
The Souletin delivered a beautiful mano to mano with the Swiss Jean-Philippe Tschumi all day before dropping him off in the last kilometers.
3rd last year, Marmissolle set off at his own pace, 11th on the long initial climb before taking the lead at Nez Boeuf (km 40) and never leaving the Top 2. lead, crossing the finish line more than two minutes ahead of the Swiss.

Cazajous gave up
For his part, Maxime Cazajous gave up.
The Nayais fought for a long time in the group for 3rd place before losing ground following “a big slack” on his arrival at Roche Plate. “I took a nap in the trail for ten minutes, I was totally cooked, people woke me up passing. (…) The objective is to reach the end”, he confided in Reunion La 1re.
The Béarnais finally threw in the towel at the 110th km because of an increasingly painful knee.
