The Ministry of National Education communicated this Thursday, September 22 the official dates of the written tests of the general and technological baccalaureate specialty lessons. Terminale students will work in writing on Monday 20, Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 March 2023, “so that the notes can be taken into account in the Parcoursup files”, specifies the ministry.
A few weeks ago, Minister Pap Ndiaye had put forward the idea of ”shifting the baccalaureate specialty tests a little”. National Education inspectors, through their union SUI-FSU, also presented themselves for a report of these writings in June.
Many members of the teaching community indeed criticize this system for forcing teachers to complete specialty programs in four and a half months, if we remove the school holidays. They have not been heard and the writings will indeed take place in the second half of March, for what will see the first full implementation of the bac reform which will come into force in 2021.
Allow “deepening of notions”
Recall that in the new version of the baccalaureate, final year students have chosen two specialty courses (roughly, their two dominant subjects) at a rate of twelve hours of lessons per week. It is these two disciplines that they must pass in March.
That said, the ministry specifies in its press release that it has “requested that the written tests of the specialty lessons relate to a narrow part of the final year program”. This means that students will not be asked for the entire program. “This will allow the deepening of the notions by the teachers and the students”, continues the press release.
“We cannot work in these conditions”
The examination program for each specialty course will be specified next Thursday. Teachers will continue with specialty lessons until June, in order to prepare students for further studies in higher education, as well as for the Grand Oral test.
Not enough to satisfy Eric Nicollet, general secretary of the SUI-FSU inspection union. The latter regrets that the teaching community was not listened to. “The Ministry is going to make drastic cuts in the programs and sacrifice learning to meet the Parcoursup schedule. This instead of admitting that maintaining the written specialty tests in March is not a good idea, sighs the manager. On top of that, we’ll still have to wait eight days to find out what program we’re talking about, it doesn’t make sense. I am not saying that the students will desert the specialty courses after the month of March. But they have other events to prepare for at the end of the year, and their attention to these programs will not be maximum. We will prioritize the content with an important part and another that will be less so. We cannot work under these conditions. »
