This Tuesday, August 2, the prefecture of Eure announced that it had spotted a “usual” animal in the Seine, without however specifying its species.
After the killer whale finally found dead at the mouth of the Seine last June, a new “unusual aquatic animal” was spotted in the Parisian river on Tuesday August 2, at the level of the Eure department.
If the prefecture evokes an animal of “medium build”, it is currently impossible to determine which species it is. The French Office for Biodiversity, supported by the Parisian firefighters, is still identifying it.
“Shallow depth zone”
“Its identification is still in progress by the services of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), with the assistance of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Eure and the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of populations (DDPP)”, explain the services of the State. The unidentified animal “is currently evolving in a shallow area”, continued the latter.
In order not to frighten him, the authorities advise residents not to go into contact with him, “at the risk of accentuating his confusion” and reduce his chances of survival. The area has been placed under surveillance.
As a reminder, an orca found itself in difficulty in the Seine, between Le Havre and Rouen, last June. The animal was eventually found dead.
